Your Osteopath in London Bridge

Osteopathy is a form of manual therapy that considers the body as one unit, where everything is connected and works together. The aim of the Osteopath is to find the cause behind the symptoms, to make sense of the presenting problem within the context of the patient. A presenting symptom isn’t seen as a problem, but as the best solution the body could come up with, given the current demands placed on it. Once the Osteopath can make sense of the mechanics of the patients and understand why the symptoms have started or are failing to get better, the treatment can be specifically targeted to aid the body heal itself.

My aim is to be as transparent as possible and I make sure patients understand what is going on, so that they can decide what they want to do and take an active role in their recovery. Osteopathic treatment is great at normalising range of motion in joints and tensions in tissues, as well as helping blood flow. I also like to give exercises and give advice, for example on desk posture, for patients to take home and make faster progress. I occasionally send patients to have further tests with their doctor when needed.

Treatment is about making sure that the body is balanced, that the gravitational forces are travelling through it naturally and that all the joints are doing their job. If a joint isn’t moving enough, the muscles around it may get stiff, or the joints directly next to it may have too much work to do. It isn’t surprising that the body would develop symptoms in such cases.

Osteopathic treatment tends to be comfortable. It is about guiding the body into a sense of neutral. The body wants to be balanced and tensions are always there for a reason — certain areas of the body may have too much to do or to little opportunity to move given the current context. Once we address this context, tensions then tend to resolve on their own, as they are no longer needed.

Simon talks about his work as an Osteopath, how the body works as a unit and how this is applied to his treatment.
Your body is what you experience your life through. Look after it!

I like to think of myself as a tool that you can use to do this. Your body being your most important “possession”, since it is what you experience life through. It needs to be healthy, because life without a body isn’t life. Osteopathy is your secret weapon. Your trump card. Your highway to enjoying life more. Your tool to allow you to have a healthy, comfortable body, that can allow you to live your life to the full.

I would love to be your reminder that your body is important. One way that I would like to do this is to share with you tips or tricks to look after yourself, that I often give to patients, such as an exercise video or ways to be healthier. You can see me as a little friend, in your pocket, that once a month buzzes up and reminds you that your body is important and needs looking after. In a world where everything is agitated, where it’s all about being in your head and being productive. Here’s a friendly reminder to take a break and look after yourself, with practical ways on how to do it.
