Can Osteopathy Help?

Osteopaths in the UK go through a full time course of four to five years to qualify, and receive extensive training in anatomy, physiology and pathology, to name a few. This gives us a solid understanding of how the body works and we find ourselves being able to understand and treat every area of the body. So if you experience pain in your back, neck, shoulders, head, knees, ankles, elbows, wrists or anywhere in between, Osteopathy can help.
Osteopaths don’t treat pathologies, but they certainly treat patients with pathologies and each treatment is tailored to the patient. The reasoning behind treatment is that if we allow for good nerve supply and blood supply to an area, the body will know how to get healthy again. The nerve supply to organs, muscles and skin comes from specific areas of the spine, that can be freed to move normally, and good blood supply is reliant on good drainage (to allow room for fresh blood and nutrients) that again can be addressed effectively with Osteopathy by working on the draining channels of the body.
Recognising whether Osteopathic treatment is appropriate for your presenting problem or if you require a referral to another specialist or your GP is one of the very first steps taken during your initial consultation. Osteopaths receive extensive training to know when a referral is needed, and you can rest assured that every effort will be made to find the treatment option that suits you best.
